Kenneth S. Arfa, MD

In Dr. Arfa's psychiatry practice, near the Houston Galleria, he specializes in issues that emerging adults encounter. His patients in their late teens, 20s, 30s, and up, most often seek treatment for anxiety, OCD, depression, bipolar, ADHD, alcohol or drugs, trauma, and eating disorders. For nearly 20 years, he has also treated college and graduate students at the University of Houston, and is now the campus psychiatrist at Rice University. 

He attended Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, and trained at Timberlawn Psychiatric Center, a program specializing in psychodynamic psychotherapy. Dr. Arfa taught medical students as clinical associate professor at Southwestern, and served as volunteer faculty of McGovern Medical School at UT Health in Houston. Additionally, he twice gave grand rounds at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. Dr. Arfa has provided many talks to psychologists and psychology interns at the University of Houston.

Dr. Arfa was president of the Houston Psychiatric Society, secretary of the national Mesorah Society, chair of the Medical Advisory Committee to Mental Health Mental Retardation, and president of Phi Delta Epsilon medical fraternity. He also held board certification in general and forensic psychiatry.

Dr. Arfa's honors included Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, awarded for “truly outstanding physicians who not only have achieved distinction in special areas, but whose depth and scope of knowledge and breadth of skills and interests are recognized and highly respected,” according to the presenters. 

His other speaking engagements included the American College Health Association, American College of Forensic Psychiatry, the Alliance for the Mentally Ill, the citywide vigil for Mental Awareness Week, the Veterans Administration, NAMI, family groups, attorney conferences, law enforcement, and court managers.

Dr. Arfa is a participating physician in the Center for Performing Arts Medicine, the official provider for the Houston Symphony, Houston Ballet, Houston Grand Opera, and professional artists from around the world. He is also part of the College Mental Health Caucus of the American Psychiatric Association.
